Tom was born in Brooklyn NY, and moved to Long Island when his Father Bob and Grandfather John relocated BFS (“Boiler Feed Systems” at the time) to West Babylon. Tom has been a part of BFS Industries since he was 12 years old. He started working summers sweeping floors, packaging small parts and making simple pump repairs. During his high school summers, he assembled boiler feed systems, fuel oil pumping systems and deaerators. He spent college summers standardizing formats for all BFS assembly and fabrication drawings as well as handling sales engineering and proposal work.
Tom Graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Management in 1987, and joined BFS full time. Tom lead the expansion of BFS’ product line starting in the late 80’s to include tray type and packed column type deaerators as well as larger and more complex packaged systems. BFS relocated to Butner, NC in 1991 and Tom was named Company President in 1995.
When away from BFS, Tom enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking & biking, spending time with family and friends at the beautiful North Carolina coast and travel of all types. Tom also enjoys working out at the gym, and plays racquetball regularly. Tom has been married to his beautiful wife Karen since 1988. They live in Raleigh and are very proud parents to Michael, Krysta & Alexa.

Michael Garbarino, PE

Michael is a sales engineer at BFS Industries, providing technical support to our representatives. Michael has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware, where he was also a member of the varsity swim team. Michael’s career began at BFS at a young age, working in the plant in various roles. including shipping/receiving, system piping, assembly and wiring. He worked in the engineering department during his college year summers, initially doing CAD drafting, and later moving into sales proposals and technical support. Michael began working full time at BFS in 2013 and became a Partner in BFS in 2014. In his spare time, Michael enjoys outdoor activities, smoking delicious meats, home brewing beer and traveling to new places. In 2018 Michael became a North Carolina licensed professional engineer in the mechanical engineering field, Michael is the first at BFS to achieve this accomplishment. Michael was married in 2018 to his gorgeous wife Kristen, together they have a dog Cliff and live in Raleigh.

Mike has been with BFS since 2006. He graduated from East Tennessee State University, Magna Cum Laude, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a US Army veteran. When not working in the halls of BFS, Mike can be found kayaking, hiking, biking and spending time with his family, including his beautiful wife & two wonderful children. Gregarious, experienced & forthright, Mike has built and maintained numerous fruitful relationships throughout the boiler industry.

Jim Samborsky, VP

Jim Samborsky grew up in Front Royal, VA and graduated from Warren County High School (1982). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Virginia Tech (1987) in Blacksburg. While there, he worked with Programmable Logic Controllers at General Electric in Charlottesville.
Jim began his engineering career with DuPont designing nuclear instrumentation for the Department of Energy. In 1995, he joined BFS Industries to start up the Controls Group.
In addition to his technical background, Jim has an active interest in music and the performing arts. Over the years, he has played clarinet, tenor sax, and trumpet. Currently he sings tenor with his church choir.

Diane was raised on Long Island and moved to North Carolina in 1992. She joined BFS in 1996, when her father, Bob Garbarino & brother, Tom offered her a position. During her tenure, she has learned many aspects of the company. She currently handles parts sales, warranties and miscellaneous pricing and computer projects. She has always handled all of the company events, such as the BFS annual Pig Pickin’ as well as all other dinners, cook-outs and social gatherings for the employees. Diane has been married to her husband Jon for over 25 years and they have two sons, Anthony & Nick. Anthony is in the Navy and Nick is an engineering student at ECU. She will tell you her biggest accomplishment is her boys, they are the light of her life. She loves to spend her free time in the summer at home by her swimming pool, and enjoys cooking for family and friends

Tim Nelson is a Mechanical Designer for BFS Industries and the Critical Fuel Systems division. He has a degree in Mechanical Drafting from Wake Tech, and is our 3D modeling specialist. Tim lives in Raleigh with his wife and 2 sons. In his time away from work, Tim enjoys mountain biking, obstacle course racing and Scouting with his sons.

Bernice Williams

Bernice began his career with BFS Industries in 1991 as a clerk in the shipping and receiving department. In 1992 he was promoted to purchasing agent and has continued in this capacity to present. Over the years Bernice has met many professionals throughout the industry which has evolved into great friendships. He enjoys golf and spending time with family and friends at the coast in his leisure time. He and his wife are blessed with three children and seven grandchildren. Bernice prides himself on being a big Carolina Tarheel fan.

Shannon Lyman

Shannon Lyman is a Mechanical Designer for BFS Industries and the Critical Fuel Systems division. He has a degree in drafting/CAD-tool and die and electro-mechanical from the State University of New York College at Alfred. He also has a degree in welding/machine shop. When Shannon is not designing pressure vessels or fuel systems he enjoys carpentry work, hunting, baseball and hockey. Go Canes!

Dan Weldon

Dan Weldon is an Electrical Schematic Designer, and has been employed with BFS since 1999. Dan started his career in the Controls Group, fabricating electrical panels. After five years of learning the fabrication side of the business, he moved to Electrical Design, where he works closely with engineering to design systems that are both functional and easy to maintain in the field. Dan performs the UL Inspections on panels, and programs an array of PID controllers. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with family, fly fishing, video games, cycling, and tending his family farm.

Michael Mery is our production manager. With over 25 years of boiler room equipment production knowledge, Michael is the leader of our strong BFS/CFS production team. He has the key attributes that any good production manager possesses; dedicated to the safety of personnel and property, has the focus and knowledge to turn out quality products, and able to multi-task varying production issues. Additional tasks that fall within his area of responsibility are dedicated truckload shipments, quality control of production, requisitioning of stock/non-stock materials, and production personnel support. He is on occasion a solid “in-house” resource for engineering when there are questions of structural design or A.S.M.E. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Michael has been with us for over 8 years and will be here for many years to come.

Erik Jackola
Project Manager
Erik Jackola is the project manager for both BFS and CFS equipment orders. His responsibilities include processing new orders and creating technical submittal packages and O&M manuals. Erik serves as a liaison between our customers, sales engineers & vendors during the entire order process. He ensures that our projects remain on time, on budget, and coordinates inter-department communications to keep the order process moving forward. Erik has a degree in Drafting/CAD from Durham Tech, and a degree in HVAC Technology. Prior to joining the BFS team, Erik was an HVAC technician; troubleshooting, repairing and installing residential heating and air conditioning systems. When Erik is not herding cats, in his spare time he enjoys traveling with his wife and two kids, floating on his pontoon boat and fishing.
